Biological Activities of CBD
CBD: Your Skin's New UV Shield
Cannabis and hemp are both part of the Cannabis genus, which is composed of a variety of compounds, named cannabinoids that interact with the cannabinoid receptors in the human body, leading to various biological activities. Most cannabinoids are widely known as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). However, there are many other compounds in the plants that have potential therapeutic properties. Many studies have reported that CBD in cannabis or hemp may have some biological activities such as photoprotective, antioxidant, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory activities.
From the research of a master’s student under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Vimolmangkang S. The results indicated that the concentrated CBD extract showed a strong ability to protect the HaCaT cells against UVA-irradiation.1 Therefore, CBD extract would be a fascinating choice for applying skincare products with antioxidant and anti-aging properties. In 2022, Leapdelab company launched a CBD facial cream and a CBD body cream. A high-quality CBD extract was used as an ingredient and mixed in the cream. The CBD will be the one to help your skin against the UV damage.
